Buddies boss hopeful of extending defender's contract

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has confirmed his intention of securing defender Darren McGregor on extended terms. The 25-year-old stopper impressed for the Buddies last season following his move from Cowdenbeath. McGregor still has one year left on his St Mirren contract, but Lennon is keen to lengthen that in order to ward off interested parties. Lennon believes there is much more to come from McGregor's game and that he will continue to develop and grow at the club.

Extension

"I've mentioned to Darren in passing on one or two occasions about extending his deal, but we've not got down to the nitty gritty," he explained. "We've very keen to extend his deal, but we need to sit round the table. "It's up to us and Darren to improve weaknesses in his game, but I feel with the type of character he is and the mentality he's got, he will continue to do well. "He has a winning mentality and that's what we need at this club."
