Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson has hailed the early-season form of goalkeeper Steve Simonsen.
Simonsen, 32, pulled off a vital save to deny Hartlepool skipper Sam Collins in Tuesday night's Carling Cup penalty shootout win and has conceded just once in the first two games. Wilson said: "He's had two very good games and impressed me in pre-season. "His form is epitomised by the penalty save but his all-round game has been good. "His distribution and decision-making about where and when to play has been very good as well. His tempo and getting us playing have been pleasing - I've been impressed with his all-round game." Former Tranmere, Everton and Stoke goalkeeper Simonsen made seven appearances while on loan with the Blades during the 2009/10 season and signed a permanent deal the following summer.
