Rangers boss Ally McCoist was full of praise for his side after their rousing 8-1 victory over Clyde in the second round of the Petrofac Training Cup.
The League Two part-timers were swept aside by a Kris Boyd hat-trick, a goal from Fraser Aird, and doubles from Lee McCulloch and Lewis Macleod.
But McCoist though his team's movement was excellent throughout, and he hopes Rangers will build on the performance.
McCoist said: "We were miles better. Our passing was a lot sharper and the quality of finishing was excellent.
"I just hope this is now a start for us and we can continue playing with a lot more speed. We moved the ball a lot quicker than we have been doing and I hope we can take confidence from that.
"We all want to play well and pass the ball about and it's great when that comes to fruition."
Former Blackpool boss Barry Ferguson suffered the heaviest defeat of his managerial career on a ground where he had many happy memories as a player.
While McCoist has sympathy for his managerial counterpart, he reckons Clyde's priorities will be in the league this season.
"It's a sore one for Barry and a sore one for his team," McCoist said. "I don't have any doubts that he will bounce back from that."With the greatest respect to Barry and his team, at the moment they have far more important things to concern themselves with the league."
