Esson has been told he has the ability to become one of the world's best keepers under the tutelage of former Scottish international Jim Leighton.
The 20-year-old has now taken over from Leighton as first choice after the veteran was seriously injured in the Scottish FA cup final last season.
Leighton is Scotland's most capped player and his experience will be undoubted useful for Esson.
The Pittodrie shot-stopper won his place ahead of David Preece and is the youngest regular keeper in the Scottish Premier League.
Skovdahl (pictured) has experience of working with great goalkeepers as he was at Brondby when Peter Schmeichel was in the formative stages of his career.
Speaking of Esson, Skovdahl said: "If Ryan had David's reflexes then he would be a world-class keeper but hopefully he can pick that up and there is no-one better than Jim Leighton for him to work with."
