The Dark Blues seemed well on their way to three points after taking a 2-0 half-time lead through a Steve Lovell penalty and Argentine striker Fabian Caballero.
However, two second half goals in the space of seven minutes from Paul Sheerin [pictured] brought the Pittodrie club level at 2-2.
Philip McGuire then put The Dons in front with ten minutes remaining but a minute later, Lee Wilkie was able to make it 3-3, as both sides had to settle for a point.
Hibernian drew level on points with Dundee following a 1-0 victory over Partick Thistle at Firhill Park.
Thomas McManus' goal a quarter of an hour into the match was enough to seal all three points for the Edinburgh club.
Dundee United remain in trouble at the bottom of the SPL table, after Ian McCall's men went down to a 1-0 defeat against Livingston at Tannadice Park.
