Makel struck after 99 minutes to hand Livingston a place in the last four of the league cup, after the sides had ended normal time at 2-2.
The Dons had twice come from behind, with Derek Lilley opening the scoring for the visitors quarter of an hour in, but Steve Tosh levelling on 34.
Fernando Pasquinelli put Livi back ahead soon after half time, but Tosh grabbed his and his side's second of the game to send the match into extra time.
Makel then scored the all-important extra-time goal, and Aberdeen could not claw their way back for a third time - to the dismay of a Pittodrie crowd who have had precious little to cheer this season.
