Injury woe for Anderson

Aberdeen defender Russell Anderson could miss the start of next season.

Aberdeen defender Russell Anderson could miss the start of next season after suffering a knee injury at Celtic.

Anderson was hurt during The Dons' 2-0 defeat at Parkhead on Sunday and is set for a lengthy lay-off.

The Scotland international damaged his medial ligament against The Bhoys and is likely to require an operation to repair the problem.

It is the second serious knee injury Anderson has suffered during his career and he only recently returned to action after a brief absence due to a fractured eye socket.

In addition to Anderson's injury, Aberdeen incurred another blow at Parkhead as Kevin McNaughton damaged ligaments.

While McNaughton's injury is not particularly serious, Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood cursed the misfortune which has befallen Anderson.

"It look as if it's a bad one and his medial ligament," said Calderwood.

"I don't know how much damage he has done yet.

"We will just have to wait and see but he has been magnificent for us the whole season and he is very important for us.

"I will just have to see on Monday how serious he is. Kevin looks as if he's hurt his ligament as well but it's not as bad as Russell's."
