Dons hope for Brewster boost

Jimmy Calderwood feels Craig Brewster could help Aberdeen qualify for Europe.

Jimmy Calderwood feels Craig Brewster could make a big difference to Aberdeen's hopes of qualifying for Europe.

Aberdeen are being tipped to win the battle to sign the veteran striker, with Kilmarnock, Motherwell and St Mirren also interested.

The former Dundee United player/manager has spoken to The Dons regarding a deal to start in January.

And Dons boss Calderwood believes the capture of the forward would be a big boost to his club's prospects of making at least the Uefa Cup.

"I've spoken to Big Brew and hope it will work out positively for us because he could make a big difference to our chances of clinching that European spot," Calderwood told the Daily Record.

"He has choices with other SPL clubs interested in him which is no great surprise because he has a great football brain as well as ability.

"We've been honest with him from the outset and said there's no guarantee of a starting place here whereas he'd probably find that elsewhere. That's what he's weighing up.

"We hope he'll decide to sign for us within the next few days."
