Clough delighted by defender's impact at Pride Park

Nigel Clough is confident Derby County defender Russell Anderson will agree a new two-year contract within the next week. Anderson has impressed since joining the Rams in January following an injury-plagued spell at Sunderland and he has made 14 appearances in the Championship so far. His current deal expires at the end of the season, but an extension is close to being confirmed following talks with Clough. "I think we are almost there with Russell now. We should be able to announce something very early next week," Rams boss Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph. He added: "Russell has done really well. First of all to come on a three to four-month deal, not many players would be willing to do that. "He came to prove himself, and we feel he has done that. "Even before he got in the side, we were impressed with him. He has not missed a training session, he is fully fit now and we hope he is going to be around for the next couple of years."
