Ward salutes 'fox in the box'

John Ward has heaped praise on his "fox in the box" Steven Gillespie, who fired Colchester to a 2-1 win over Brentford on Tuesday.

Striker Steven Gillespie climbed off the bench and scored twice in as many minutes late on to secure a dramatic victory for the hosts after Niall McGinn had given the Bees the lead. U's boss Ward said: "It was a hard-fought game that probably lacked a wee bit of quality in the first half. The second half I think we started extremely slowly and we were disappointed with that. "We conceded the goal and we gave free-kicks away which we hadn't done in the first period and looked a little bit sloppy and a little bit slow to react to things. "But the changes helped I think - the comeback was strong and so was the finish and the goals helped give us the confidence to do so. It needed to change and we had some strength on our bench. "It's what Steven does and he's the fox in the box. His first goal was a striker's goal and he's beaten a good goalkeeper with his second goal with a shot that moved."
