Aberdeen's Barry Robson wants to sign new contract with club

Aberdeen's Barry Robson is keen to sign a new contract after the pain of his side's controversial end to the season.

A disputed late winner for Motherwell ensured that the Dons finished the campaign third in the Scottish Premiership table, but Robson wants to sign up again a year after moving to Pittodrie from Sheffield United.

Manager Derek McInnes recently stated that he felt there would not be a problem in agreeing terms with the former Celtic player, who made 35 appearances in all competitions last season.

"I'd love to stay," the 35-year-old declared. "We have a top manager, top players and it's a great club. Everything about it is in place. We'll try to sort it out, but at the moment I'm just gutted about what has happened.

"The players and fans were disappointed but we will be making sure this club is competing for second and in the cups every year. This disappointment will only mean we come back with the bit between our teeth."

Aberdeen have qualified for next season's Europa League, but having to enter at the early stages means McInnes' squad will return to training in June.

Robson added: "You want to be in Europe, and that is what happens. You might only get three or four weeks off but we won't complain."
