Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has confirmed defender Jordan McGhee will sign for Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old impressed in central defence for Hearts on their return to the top flight last season, helping the club to a third-place finish.

McGhee's form in the first half of the campaign brought him to the attention of Boro, and he missed out on a switch to the Riverside on the last day of the January transfer window as a deal could not be processed in time.

Neilson told Sky Sports News HQ: "It was something that came up during the January transfer window and it broke down at the last minute, so Jordan has kind of had his heart set on it since then.

"The last year or two he has been desperate to get down to England and we just felt that, when Middlesbrough came back in and [with] John's desire to go and play down there, it was the right thing to do.

"Middlesbrough are looking to recruit younger players to come into their development squad. Jordan will go down there and he will try and push for the first team. I think his aim is to get down there, impress in the U21s and progress from there. It's a loan move initially and we will take it from there."

Neilson has also revealed Hearts have offered a deal to Viktor Noring after the goalkeeper impressed during a trial period with the club.

The 25-year-old, who has one international cap with Sweden, spent a short spell on loan at Celtic in 2013.

Sky Sports News HQ understands Noring has been offered a one-year contract at Tynecastle.
