Kilmarnock have snapped up Stanraer full-back Fraser Wright.Kilmarnock have moved to cater for Frederic Dindeleux's possible departure by snapping up Stanraer full-back Fraser Wright.
The 24-year-old makes the step up to the SPL, and full-time football, with Killie as French star Dindeleux has refused to sign a new deal at Rugby Park.
Wright impressed over the course of the season as Stranraer won promotion to the Scottish First Division, and admitted to being surprised at being given the chance to prove himself in the top flight.
"I always wanted full time football but had pretty much given up on it so it was a bit of a surprise, I wasn't expecting it at all," Wright told the Daily Record.
"I started out at St Mirren in the same youth team as Burton O'Brien and David McNamee but they went to Blackburn and I went to Stranraer.
"It was a bit of a wrench [to leave] because the boys at Stranraer are more friends than anything.
"I had won two promotions with them and been relegated, but if you get the chance to play in the SPL you have to take it."
Killie boss Jim Jeffries confirmed that he turned to Wright with Dindeleux likely to leave Rugby Park, and also revealed that the club were keen to keep hold of striker Kris Boyd - despite encountering problems with his contract renewal.
"We looked at Fraser when Freddie Dindeleux intimated his future was away from Kilmarnock," said Jeffries.
"Kris said money wasn't an object but I see his adviser said our offer 'didn't blow him away' so that's what advisers do.
"We want to keep him but another club from down south have shown interest."
Boyd has been linked with both Wolves and Aberdeen in the past, and has yet to sign the two-year extension on offer Kilmarnock.
