Kris Boyd has backed Rangers to win a third successive league title, despite seeing rivals Hearts make a perfect start to the Scottish Championship season.

Rangers are one promotion away from reaching Scotland's top flight, two years after liquidation saw the Ibrox side start again in the Third Division.

And though Hearts, relegated from the Premiership last season, have won all four of their league fixtures - including an opening-day tussle at Ibrox - Boyd remains confident of finishing top of the pile again.

"I would still fancy us with the players we've got and the squad we've got," the 31-year-old, who has scored five goals so far this campaign, told Sky Sports News HQ.

"We knew it was going to be difficult but I think what happened to us at the beginning of the season (a 2-1 home defeat by Hearts) was a wake-up call.

"It will be interesting to see if Hearts can keep going; they obviously came to Ibrox with no pressure on them.

"Hibernian will fancy their chances too. There's not much between the teams.

"It's certainly a difficult league but I always thought it would be a challenge. We're looking forward to what lies ahead and we want to keep progressing."

Rangers head to Raith Rovers on Friday hoping to build on a 4-2 victory over Queen of the South that lifted them to second - behind the Jambos - in the table.
