Houston Dynamo doubt a deal for Derek Riordan will happen unless the Hibernian striker changes his wage demands.
Riordan is out of contract at Hibernian and his free transfer status makes the forward an attractive proposition for several clubs.
Skysports.com revealed last week that Blackburn Rovers are monitoring his situation, while Crystal Palace and Watford are also understood to be keen.
Major League Soccer outfit Houston tried to sign Riordan in April, only for the player to decide to see out the SPL season with Hibs.
Too far apart
However, Houston president Chris Canetti says his club are unlikely to make a fresh approach for Riordan if there is no change in his demands.
Canetti said: "I think it's been publicised and understood that we had conversations with him, but we weren't able to come to an agreement.
"I will confirm that we've been in touch with his agents. We've been in touch, but they haven't communicated that anything has changed at this point and we certainly have not made another offer.
"We decided the first time that we were too far apart and there has been nothing yet to indicate that we're any closer than last time. Unless the circumstances have changed, I'm not sure anything can happen."
