Aberdeen are close to agreeing a deal to bring Alan Maybury back to the club.

Nicholl hopeful over defender deal

Aberdeen are close to agreeing a deal to bring Alan Maybury back to the club. Maybury left Pittodrie over the summer after failing to agree a permanent contract following a loan deal at the club. The Republic of Ireland international, who is a free agent, is weighing up his options and Dons assistant boss Jimmy Nicholl remains hopeful Maybury will return to Aberdeen.

Interested

"If you can get somebody who can play in a position as naturally as Alan Maybury does, you are obviously going to be interested," said Nicholl. "I know Jimmy (Calderwood) has been talking about getting him in and I know he wants him in, but if we don't for whatever reason, be it financial or if he's dragging his feet, he has other things in mind." Nicholl also revealed the club are hoping to bring in several new faces before the close of the transfer window next week. "I think there will be two or three in before the end of the week. I hope so," added Nicholl. "Things are in place and it will just depend on the final decision of the player and the player's club."
