Hibernian moved third in the Scottish Championship table with a 3-0 victory over lowly Alloa at Easter Road.

The hosts were the dominant force throughout, although they needed 44 minutes to break the deadlock despite having more than a dozen shots on goal during the first half.

David Gray, John McGinn, Liam Henderson and Liam Fontaine all tried their luck more than once before Henderson opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time.

Although it took Hibs most of the first period to find the back of the net, the second goal arrived just five minutes into the second half.

Gray was instrumental in finding Jason Cummings whose left-foot slid the ball beyond goalkeeper David Crawford from six yards out.

The hosts continued to dominate and added a third in the 65th minute, which all but sealed the three points for Alan Stubbs' team.

From Henderson's cross, John McGinn fired in the third as he found the bottom left-hand corner from inside the box.

Hibs continued to press for a fourth goal but the win - their third in as many home games this season - moved them two spots up the table.

However, they remain without a point away from home and are nine behind runaway leaders Rangers, who made it six wins out of six by defeating Livingston 3-0 at Ibrox.

There was an exciting contest at St Mirren where the hosts threw away a two-goal lead as Falkirk came from behind to win 3-2.

The Bairns remain unbeaten in the Scottish Championship and are the closest challengers to leaders Rangers.

John Baird netted twice for the visitors including a last-minute winner after Saints led 2-0 at the break.

Scott Agnew needed just three minutes to open the scoring direct from a corner which required some help from the wind.

Although there was little in the way of goalmouth action for much of the first half, Stephen Mallan did manage to double St Mirren's lead on the break with a low strike from inside the box on 38.

Falkirk finally came to the party after the break with Craig Sibbald twice forcing home 'keeper Jamie Langfield into saves early in the second half.

And with 54 minutes on the clock the Bairns were back in the game as Luke Leahy reduced the arrears with a close- range header from David Smith's cross to the far post.

The equaliser arrived 19 minutes from time via the penalty spot after Tom Taiwo was fouled by Scott Agnew, and Baird smashed the ball straight down the middle to level matters from 12 yards.

The visitors continued to press with Baird and David Smith both going close as Falkirk chased a winner.

Mallan could have won it for St Mirren but his attempt from close range was saved by Daniel Rogers.

But with the game heading for a draw, Smith slipped the ball to Baird who side-footed home Falkirk's winner from eight yards.

Meanwhile, at Stark's Park, Kyle Benedictus scored the only goal as Raith Rovers beat Queen of the South 1-0.

The defender met James Craigen's cross to head home from 12 yards.

Ryan Conroy had earlier gone close for the visitors when his free-kick was well saved by Raith keeper Kevin Cuthbert who also kept out Andrew Dowie's header.

But with 78 minutes gone, centre-back Benedictus found the top corner as Rovers made it three wins from three home games this season.

Both sides drew a blank at Cappielow Park where Morton were chasing their first home win of the season but had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw with Dumbarton.

While Morton enjoyed greater possession, it was Dumbarton who created the greater chances, with the hosts reduced to 10 men midway through the second half.

Conor Pepper saw red after collecting his second yellow card of the match in the 66th minute.

And Garry Fleming almost won it for the visitors in the third minute of injury-time when he struck the left post from inside the box.
