McLaren had initially signed a short-term deal until Christmas after leaving Kilmarnock in the summer.
Tannadice boss Ian McCall has been impressed by the performances of McLaren and was keen to sign him to a longer deal.
"We've agreed a deal with Andy (McLaren) to keep him here until the end of next season, so we're obviously delighted about that," said McCall.
"The deal was actually agreed last Sunday but after what's been going on up the road over the past week we felt it would be inappropriate to announce it then.
"Andy has done terrifically well for us and is showing the sort of form that got him into the Scotland squad not that long ago.
"He is remarkably consistent for someone that plays in his position because you often find that the more skilful ball players blow a bit hot and cold.
"The challenge now is for him to keep it up and I'm sure he will.
McCall also admitted he would be keeping an eye on the situation with Caballero and Georgi Nemsadze following their release from cash-stricken Dundee.
"I would imagine there's a lot of clubs showing interest in Fabian Caballero because he's an excellent player - as is Georgi Nemsadze," added McCall.
"They are both terrific talents and someone is going to get them for nothing, but just because I like them doesn't mean they're going to end up at Tannadice.
"We've got to get our own ship running a bit tighter and had to free up money to sign Andy by moving Owen Coyle out on loan, so if we were going to bring anyone in we'd have to ship someone else out first."
