Ayr United dumped SPL side Inverness Caledonian Thistle out of the Scottish League Cup with a shock 1-0 win at Somerset Park. Eddie Malone was the hero, grabbing the only goal of the game on the hour mark to send the First Division side through. Three first-half goals ensured that St Johnstone followed up their shock win over Celtic at the weekend with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Livingston at McDiarmid Park. Frazer Wright gave the Saints the lead after 13 minutes before a quick-fire double from Francisco Sandaza (18 and 25) put the game beyond the visitors before the break. Motherwell comfortably made it through to round three with a 4-0 win over Clyde at Broadwood Stadium. Michael Higdon opened the scoring after 17 minutes before a Nicky Law strike four minutes before the break put Well in control. Tom Hateley effectively finished the game as a contest six minutes into the second period and Steven Lawless grabbed a fourth with five minutes remaining to ensure it was a comfortable evening for Stuart McCall's men. Falkirk came from behind to beat Stenhousemuir 3-1 and make it through to round three. Eric Paton gave the visitors the lead after 25 minutes and they held onto that advantage at the break. However, the Bairns hit back with two goals in two minutes early in the second period when first Brown Ferguson put the ball into his own net and then Craig Sibbald fired them in front. Farid El Alagui finished the tie off with a third Falkirk goal in injury time.
