Motherwell defender Brian Mclean will miss at least three months of action through injury.
A scan has revealed that Motherwell defender Brian McLean will miss at least three months of action after being stretchered off against Hearts at the weekend.
The former Rangers man was making his first start of the campaign. He had previously been sidelined with an injury sustained in pre-season.
McLean could be on the sidelines for longer, something which worries manager Maurice Malpas.
He told his club's website: "Its a big blow for the player as he has had a difficult time."
The scan showed that McLean had suffered medial ligament and cartilage damage. He will see a specialist on Wednesday to determine if he requires surgery.
The defender was taken off just six minutes into the match, which Motherwell eventually lost 1-0.
Well now find themselves short at the back, with Malpas expressing his concerns: "We are now struggling for defenders.
"We have started looking to see who is available out there.
"But we won't bring someone in just for the sake of it and we'll just need to plod away with what we've got until we find someone suitable."
