Midfielder Jim Goodwin has left Huddersfield after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old was under contract until the end of the season but has been released so that he can find another club.
The Irishman, who was signed by Stan Ternent from Scunthorpe in June 2008, slipped down the pecking order at Huddersfield last season with manager Lee Clark making a host of new signings.
Goodwin spent the end of last season on loan at League One rivals Oldham and Clark, who took over in December 2008, believes he will soon be offered a deal elsewhere.
"Jim has been fantastic for my entire tenure as manager of the club," the Terriers' boss told the club's
official website.
Brilliant example
"He is an incredibly hard-working individual who serves as a brilliant example for all of our young professionals and has never let me down when called upon.
"I will do everything I can do to help him find a new club but I doubt that he will need any help given his ability."
Goodwin started out at Celtic and made just one first-team appearance before joining Stockport in 2002 and then Scunthorpe in 2005.
In all, Goodwin has made 267 first-team appearances, including 47 for Huddersfield with seven coming last season.
Huddersfield's chief executive Nigel Clibbins added: "Jim has made a massive contribution both on and off the pitch. I would personally like to thank him for everything he has done.
"Circumstances dictated that Jim faced the prospect of limited opportunities for the remainder of his contract and this arrangement suits both parties."
