Rory McAllister scored a last-minute penalty as Peterhead shocked Hearts at the Balmoor Stadium, where the League Two side won 2-1 in the latest round of group-stage matches in the Betfred Cup.
The Edinburgh club had gone into Tuesday night's game on the back of two straight victories in Group B.
Jason Brown fired Peterhead into a sixth-minute lead, before Kyle Lafferty equalised on 17.
And that was the way it remained until Brown was brought down in the area and McAllister converted the spot kick.
In four days' time, Hearts entertain group leaders Dunfermline who head the table by a single point.
Peterhead boss Jim McInally said: "For 70 minutes, we were probably the better side and we got a break at the end."
Meanwhile, in Group G, Albion Rovers surprised Hamilton at Cliftonhill where the Scottish Premiership club were shocked on penalties, after the game had ended 4-4.
Alan Trouten scored a hat-trick in the match, and also netted the clinching penalty, after Ross Davidson's last-gasp equaliser had taken the tie to spot kicks.
Rovers had led 1-0, before the Accies responded by leading 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3, until Davidson levelled matters with an audacious lob over keeper Ryan Fulton.
In the shoot-out, Rovers netted all four of their kicks, while the visitors missed their opening two.
Elsewhere, Simon Murray scored a hat-trick as Hibernian secured their second victory of competition by trouncing Arbroath 6-1 at Easter Road.
Murray opened the scoring in the 18th minute when he headed home David Gray's cross.
Danny Swanson should have added a second a few minutes later from the penalty spot, but fired his shot over the bar.
And seven minutes before the break the visitors drew level thanks to Steven Doris, before Ryan Porteous restored Hibernian's lead on the stroke of half-time with a header from Swanson's assist.
Five minutes into the second half Martin Boyle set up Murray for his second, while John McGinn netted the fourth goal on 55.
Teenager Porteous claimed his second of the night in the 88th minute, nodding home Efe Ambrose's cross, with Murray scoring his third in the final minute with another headed goal, courtesy of Steven Whittaker.
In Group A, Myles Hippolyte grabbed a hat-trick as Falkirk made it three wins from as many matches with a comfortable 4-0 triumph over Forfar.
His first and third were superbly struck efforts, with the Bairns opening a three-goal advantage by half-time, as Hippolyte completed his trio of goals in the 50th minute. The win sends Falkirk through to the last 16 of the competition.
Ayr United made it nine points from three fixtures in Group E with an easy 5-1 triumph over Clyde at Somerset Park.
Although the Honest Men fell behind to a 12th minute David Goodwillie strike, three second half goals keeps them on track to qualify for the knock-out stage.
Motherwell reached the last 16, after coming from behind to beat Edinburgh City 2-1 in Group F.
After a goalless first 69 minutes, Ashley Grimes slid the hosts in front but the lead lasted just five minutes before Chris Cadden struck for the Scottish Premiership side.
And with penalties looming in the Scottish capital, Cadden slipped the ball to Elliot Frear who converted from close range.
In Group H, Livingston reached the knock-out phase with a 4-2 success at Stranraer.
The decisive goal arrived 10 minutes when Scott Robinson netted at the far post, less than 90 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
Livi have 11 points from four games and cannot now be overtaken by Partick Thistle who won 2-1 Airdrie.
Thistle will probably have to beat Stranraer on Saturday to qualify as one of the four leading runner-up teams.
Stenhousemuir 1 - 2 East Kilbride: Neither side can qualify from Group G.
Berwick Rangers 2 - 3 Queen's Park: The hosts score first and last, while Queen's Park complete their fixtures in Group F where they top the table with seven points from four matches.
Dumbarton 0 - 0 Annan Athletic: Annan take the extra point on penalties but neither can qualify from Group E.
East Fife 3 - 2 Elgin City: Paul Willis fires an 82nd minute winner after Nathan Flanagan parries the ball into his path. All five goals came in the second half of this Group B encounter.
Montrose 2 - 1 Alloa Athletic: The hosts claim their first points of the competition in this their final game of four, leaving Alloa bottom of Group D.
Stirling Albion 2 - 0 Brechin City: In Group A, a brace of penalties earn Albion three points. However, they are unlikely to reach the knock-out stages.
Buckie Thistle 1 - 6 Raith Rovers: Three goals in each half for Raith. Liam Buchanan and Lewis Vaughan score two apiece, with the latter blasting his second from a 30-yard free-kick. However, it was too late for Rovers to qualify from Group C.
