Pars hand trial to French ace

DUNFERMLINE ATHLETIC have handed a trial to French goalkeeper Fabien Audard.

The 25-year-old has found himself currently third choice with French outfit Bastia.

The former Toulouse ace will spend a week at East End Park in the hope of winning a contract and he is set to play in the Under-21s so that Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood can have a close look at him in action.

"He'll train with us again on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and then hopefully he'll play in the Under- 21s at Methil on Wednesday," said Calderwood.

"We'll make a decision after that but he did very well this morning, I must say.

"He's under contract to Bastia but there's a possibility of us taking him on loan.

"I know of him through an agent and our interest is with an eye to next season.

"I wouldn't have got him over if there wasn't the chance of signing him. I don't get players in if I can't afford them. If he was beyond our budget I wouldn't even have asked for him to come across."

Meanwhile, reserve goalkeeper Scott Thomson has signed a new one-year contract to become goalkeeping coach but he will act as cover in case of injuries.
