Craig Levein has been busy in the transfer market by landing Andy Webster while Danny Grainger has left.
Levein lands a defender and lets one go
Dundee United manager Craig Levein has been busy in the transfer market by landing Andy Webster on loan while also allowing Danny Grainger to leave.
Former Wigan Athletic defender Webster, who has spent much of the past few seasons battling injury, has joined on a season-long from Rangers.
Levein signed Webster as Hearts manager and is looking forward to being reunited with the defender who enjoyed some of his best years at Tynecastle.
The former Leicester City manager knows Webster's quality and hopes the 22-cap Scotland man can stay injury-free during his year at Tannadice.
Good relationship
"Andy Webster is a player I know very well, having signed him for Hearts back in 2001," he told the club's
office website.
"He is a player I know can play at the highest level and I wasn't surprised to see him return to the international scene at the end of last season.
"For our part, he will further strengthen a very important area of the team and add to the options I have defensively.
"For his part, it gives him an opportunity to gain regular first-team football and get his career back on track after overcoming his injury problems."
Defender exit
Meanwhile, Grainger has departed Tannadice after just one season at the club after penning a two-deal with St Johnstone.
Levein has decided due to the form of Paul Dixon it is best to allow the former Gretna man to leave as he cannot guarantee him first-team football.
"Danny has been unfortunate in that the form of Paul Dixon since his arrival at Tannadice has meant that his opportunities and ambitions have been frustrated," explained
"He's a player who needs, and deserves, regular first-team football and this move will I'm sure see him play regularly in the SPL."
