Rennes won 2-0 away to newly-promoted Angers in Ligue 1 on Friday to end a seven-match unbeaten run and move up to sixth in the table.

Rennes had started the season brightly, winning four of the first five matches, but this was under-pressure coach Philippe Montanier's first league win since September.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure put Rennes ahead in the fourth minute and Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes made it 2-0 just past the hour.

Rennes have 20 points after 13 matches, two less than Angers, which is in fourth place ahead of this weekend's matches.
