Sunderland have completed the signing of Wahbi Khazri from Bordeaux on a four-and-a-half year contract.

The fee is undisclosed but Sky sources believe it to be in the region of £9m.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce turned his attention to Khazri after appearing to rule out a move for Andre Ayew from relegation rivals Swansea.

And he will consider the capture of Khazri, 24, a victory after reports this week that both Everton and Aston Villa were also tracking the player.

Allardyce told the club's website: "Wahbi is a quick, dynamic attacking player. He has many attributes, not least his delivery from wide areas and set pieces and of course his ability to score goals.

"His versatility will certainly complement our existing forward options and I am delighted to welcome him to the club."

Khazri began his career with Bastia, making 200 appearances for them in five years, and his performances for the Corsica-based team earned him his first call-up to the Tunisia national side, for whom he has gone on to play 13 times.

He moved on to Bordeaux in 2014 and played 50 times for them, scoring 14 goals.

He has been handed the No 22 shirt at Sunderland and goes straight into the squad for Tuesday's Premier League game against Manchester City.

Khazri said: "I'm very happy to play for Sunderland. It is amazing because I wanted to play in the Premier League; for me it is the best league in Europe so I'm very excited and I can't wait to play games.

"I spoke with my friend Henri Saviet who plays for Newcastle United so he knows all about Sunderland, and he said it is the best league and that the people are fantastic.

"My qualities are technique and I'm very combative. Football goes very fast and if you win two games you can move up the table.

"We now have three very important games against Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United."

Sunderland have also signed Ivory Coast central defender Lamine Kone from Lorient, Senegal striker Dame N'Doye on loan from Turkey's Trabzonspor and defender Jan Kirchhoff from Bayern Munich.
