Newly-promoted Metz have signed Swiss international Daniel Gygax on a three-year deal.
Gygax spent the second half of last season on loan at Les Grenats from Lille and has now made the switch permanent.
"Here it is like a family," Gygax told the club's official website.
"The most important thing is that I feel I have the coach's (Francis De Taddeo) trust.
"I talked twice to the coach and chairman Carlo Molinari and they told me they wanted me.
"My team-mates also asked me to stay and I also felt the fans' support.
"It was clear before the end of the season - I wanted to stay with Metz."
Metz have also added experienced midfielder Cedric Barbosa, who joins from relegated Troyes.
Barbosa has signed a two-year contract at the Stade Saint-Symphorien.
