Ivorian departs for Qatar

Marseille striker Bakari Kone has signed a two-year deal with Qatari club Lakhwiya, according to the French club. The 28-year-old was signed by the French champions from Nice for 10million euros in 2008, however a series of injuries has seen him lose his place. The Ivory Coast international initially impressed at the club, scoring nine goals in his first campaign. However, he failed to make the cut for the final World Cup squad, and has decided to take up the option to move on to the cash rich league in Qatar. Marseille boss Didier Deschamps has also ruled out offering 35-year-old full-back Cyril Rool a new contract, after signing on a one-year deal from Nice.
