Lens held a two-point advantage over Lille at the start of play, and Jocelyn Blanchard's 10th minute strike was enough for the home side to grab all three points against Sedan, who had Nicolas Sachy sent off just before the hour mark.
Lille lost their second place after they lost the big game of the day against fourth placed Auxerre as goals from star striker Djibrill Cisse (pictured) and Yann Lachuer were enough to seal a 2-1 win for Guy Roux's men, with Olivier Kapo Obou's own goal replying for Lille.
Lyon took advantage of Lille's defeat to move into second spot as a result of their comfortable 3-0 win away at Lorient, and the game was wrapped up in just over half an hour with goals from Eric Carriere (7), Sonny Anderson (29) and Sidney Govou (31).
Troyes earned an impressive 3-2 away win against Bordeaux despite going 1-0 down to Pauleta's goal on 15 minutes. Two goals from Nicolas Gousse (45, 62) either side of Patrice Loko's 50th minute strike put Troyes in command and they hung on for the win despite Christian making it 3-2 in the 69th minute.
Sochaux move up a place above Bordeaux thanks to a 2-0 win over Metz courtesy of goals from Santos and Marcello Trapasso.
Nantes's miserable season continues as the reigning champions remain in bottom place after going down to a 2-0 defeat away at Rennes with goals from Olivier Monterrubio (51) and Anthony Reveillere (74).
Fode Mansare and Toifilou Maoulida gave Montpellier a 2-1 win at home to Bastia, with Lilian Nalis getting the goal for the Corsican side.
Paris Saint Germain had to settle for a point at the Parc des Princes as Guingamp's Hakim Saki grabbed an equalizer four minutes from time after Hugo Leal had given the capital club the lead.
