With just the two games being played in France on Thursday, Guy Roux's Auxerre had the chance to maintain top spot but there slip-up in Corsica allowed the defending champions to move to the top of the tree.
Eric Carriere gave Paul Le Guen's men the lead after just ten minutes away in Le Havre before Liverpool starlet Anthony Le Tallec levelled the scores on the hour mark.
Lyon pushed forward and it was Brazilian defender Claudio Cacapa that grabbed the winner six minutes from time as Lyon flexed their muscles to move ominously to the top of the league as they aim to defend their title.
Roux's men started their game in Corsica top of the league but slipped down a place when they fell to a late winner at Francois Coty.
With the game heading for a draw, midfielder Walid Regragui popped up in the final minute to grab a much-needed point for the Corsicans, to lift them away from the relegation zone.
