Lyon win Essien chase

The two French giants have been locked in a battle for the Ghanaian international after agreeing a fee with Bastia for his services, in a deal that included striker Frederic Nee heading back to Corsica.
A number of top clubs including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Everton have been linked with Essien, but Lyon have won the chase for his signature as the 20-year-old had declared his intention to stay.
Essien is believed to have turned down a move to the Parc Des Princes as he would prefer to play in the Champions League with Lyon.
The tough-tackling midfielder has signed a four-year with Le Championnat winners in a deal worth é¼7.1 million
Nee has agreed on a pay-cut to move back to to Bastia, who he played for before moving to Lyon in 2001.
