The talented former Bayern Munich hit-man has failed to recapture the standards that established him as one of Europe's premier marksmen and confesses that the expectations placed upon him were difficult to justify.
''I am still looking to find my place. Until now, I was playing too much in the area, waiting for the balls,'' admitted Elber to L'Equipe.
''It is logical people expect more from me. You have not seen Giovane yet. I came quickly, everything was new, the language, the adaptation.
''My position in attack is very different. I must change my style to insert myself here.''
Despite admitting that he has been slow to adapt to the French way of life, Elber insists that he is more than content with his football and is predicting an exciting future for Lyon.
''The atmosphere is excellent in the group. Sometimes I am sad because I want to give more to the people who give me a lot,'' continued Elber.
''Here, the league is very strong and full of surprises.''
Elsewhere, influential Lyon playmaker Eric Carriere is to miss the midweek UEFA Champions League clash with Real Sociedad.
The talented midfielder is suffering from tendonitis pain in his knee and his absence will be sorely missed by Lyon coach Paul Le Guen.
However, exciting young full back Jeremie Berthod has suffered no ill-effects on returning to training and has declared himself fit to play.
