Lyon to reshape defence

Lyon are aiming to rebuild their defence next season as the champions refuse to rest on their laurels.

L'OL effectively clinched their third successive title win, barring a mathematical improbability, but several key defenders could be departing Stade Gerland.

Claudio Cacapa has been injured throughout the season and is likely to be sacrificed in the summer. Patrick Muller (pictured) is still in talks over a contract extension but the Switzerland stopper has other options, including in Germany.

Bochum are firm admirers of Muller but he is seeking a wage increase from Lyon.

Eric Deflandre has already decided to leave for Standard Liege so Paul Le Guen has earmarked reinforcements to his backline.

Lille's Eric Abidal and Nantes star Mario Yepes are priority targets.

Abidal has been offered a four-year contract to play at centre back next term and Colombian Yepes has already been approached.

"I saw the fax," confirmed Nantes chairman Jean-Luc Gripond to L'Equipe. "I know (Lyon chairman) Jean-Michel Aulas had a phone call with Mario but the club has no news.

"That is the situation."
