Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas feared he may lose out on Sylvain Wiltord.Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that he had to beat off interest from Barcelona and Monaco to the signature of Sylvain Wiltord.
Former Arsenal striker Wiltord clinched a move to the French champions on transfer deadline day, but he also had offers from around Europe to consider.
Aulas claims he felt they might lose out on the signature of Wiltord when he learned who else was in for the French international.
"We were afraid we would lose Wiltord," he told L'Equipe. "The competition was harsh.
"On Sunday night, he had a meeting with Barcelona, and on Tuesday morning Monaco called him.
"Now I think with this group we can still achieve beautiful things."
Commenting on the club's other summer signings, Aulas added: "With Nilmar we had to go quick, because he is a great hope and his price could increase quickly.
"Pierre-Alain Frau and Eric Abidal were priorities for Marseille and PSG and for them we paid é¼16 million.
"We found Cris for an attractive price, less than é¼3.5 million. He is a little like Carlos Mozer."
