Elber calms Lyon row

Giovane Elber has revealed his reasons for undergoing surgery without consulting Lyon.

Lyon striker Giovane Elber has revealed his reasons for undergoing surgery without consulting the club.

The Brazilian ace infuriated the club after travelling to Germany for further surgery on his knee injury without telling the club of his plans.

Elber revealed he went under the knife again after being informed that the injury would need more surgery.

"At first, that operation was not forecasted. It was only to remove the screws in my leg and then start the rehabilitation programme," Elber told L'Equipe.

"Then the doctor saw it was essential to operate again. The doctor saw a weakness in my leg. So I decided to operate straight away to not lose time.

"I will meet the Lyon officials to tell them why I went to Munich and how things happened and how I think about the future."

The former Bayern Munich man has now set his sights on a return to action next January.

"At first I hoped to be back for December, but with that second operation it will be delayed," added Elber.

"I hope to be back in January. My aim is to resume collective training sessions at that time.

"My goal is to be back to full fitness as soon as possible and play again for Lyon."
