Brazilian ace Juninho Pernambucano got Lyon off to a flying start with the opener after just two minutes and Florent Malouda doubled the lead right on the stroke of half time.
Juninho added the third with his second of the contest seven minutes after the restart and Bryan Bergougnoux grabbed the fourth on 57 minutes.
Lille lost further ground on Lyon after being held to a disappointing draw at home to Sochaux.
Monaco missed the chance to go second after being held to a goalless draw at Nantes
Marseille climbed up to third spot with a 3-0 victory over Rennes at Stade Velodrome.
Loan signing Bruno Cheyrou sent Marseille on their way with the opener on 35 minutes and Laurent Batlles added a second three minutes before the break.
Steve Marlet grabbed the third on 52 minutes and things got worse for Rennes when Swedish international Kim Kallstrom was sent off just past the hour mark.
Toifilou Maoulida pulled a goal back for the ten men on 81 minutes, but it was nothing more than a consolation for Rennes.
Strasbourg surged out of the bottom three with a 5-0 demolition of Caen as Mickael Pagis helped himself to a hat trick.

Pascal Feindouno restored St Etienne's lead 11 minutes from time and it looked like giving the visitors all three points until Kalou popped up five minutes from the end with the equaliser.
Ajaccio and Istres played out a goalless draw in the battle between the two strugglers.
Bastia boosted their survival hopes with a goalless draw at Bordeaux.
Nice climbed further away from trouble after picking up a 1-1 draw with Metz.
Gregory Proment's 68th minute penalty gave Metz the lead, but Marama Vahirua earned Nice a share of the spoils with an equaliser 14 minutes from time.
