Aulas blasts Lyon

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is furious with the squad's defeat by Tottenham.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is furious with the squad after their Peace Cup defeat at the hands of Tottenham in Korea.

The French champions were embarrassed in the opening 45 minutes and went in 3-0 down at the interval.

Although they managed a goal in the second half, Aulas was not happy despite the game being a pre-season friendly encounter.

"During half time, I just asked the players to not be so ridiculous during 90 minutes," said Aulas.

"I told them 45 minutes was enough.

"It was a good slap that we needed to put things back in the right place.

"You can't win a match just with individual players' quality, but only thanks to the collective quality and the desire.

"But any fighting spirit and pride was on the Tottenham side, they are usually Lyon's qualities."

Now, l'OL will be back to France on Monday before facing Auxerre in the Trophee des Champions on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, several French sides are keen on signing Lyon starlet Karim Benzema on loan.

The 17-year-old striker will probably get few first team opportunities next term, and Ligue 2 sides Caen and Dijon have asked for him on loan.

Ligue 1 side Sochaux are interested and the youngster and his agent will meet with Lyon officials on Tuesday to talk about his immediate future.
