The left back suffered a relapse of an injury he sustained during the summer and underwent surgery on Wednesday.
He incurred damage to the fifth metatarsal of his left foot during Les Bleus's 3-2 win over Costa Rica at the beginning of November.
The French international will not be able to resume training for six to eight weeks, and is not expected to return to action until February.
Lyon are now considering taking legal action against the French Football Federation.
