Ligue 1 round-up

French league leaders Lyon were held to a surprising 1-1 home draw with Auxerre.

French league leaders Lyon were held to a surprising 1-1 home draw with third place Auxerre.

Such is the dominance of Gerard Houllier's side in French football that any dropped points are worthy of mention, with the latest coming courtesy of a late leveller from Peguy Luyindula.

Lyon took the lead through reported Manchester United target Mahamadou Diarra two minutes before the interval before Luyindula struck in the 89th minute.

Earlier on Sunday saw Monaco and Lens also play out a 1-1 stalemate in a midtable clash.

In what was a lacklustre game Monaco starlet Serge Gakpe was given a rare opportunity to impress due to illness to star signing Christian Vieri and did his chances of playing more regularly no harm by grabbing a goal.

Gakpe registered with a fine effort just six minutes in before Lens defender Nicolas Gillet equalised on the stroke of half time.

Monaco remain in ninth in what is fast becoming a hugely disappointing campaign for the Principality outfit.
