Real interest in Lyon duo

Real Madrid are being linked with Lyon duo Mahamadou Diarra and Eric Abidal.

Reports from France are claiming Fabio Capello's appointment as Real Madrid's new coach could have implications for Lyon.

The Italian tactician's return to Spain has led to inevitable speculation as to who the capital giants will bring in, with Cesc Fabregas and Kaka their primary targets.

However, Capello is believed to be a firm admirer of Lyon duo Mahamadou Diarra and Eric Abidal and should deals for other targets fail to materialise then big money offers could be forthcoming.

Midfield powerhouse Diarra is believed to be a long-term target of Manchester United but it is Real who are more likely to have the financial muscle to prise the player away from France.

Abidal has impressed for France at the World Cup this summer and with speculation mounting as to where Chelsea target Roberto Carlos will be playing next term, the buccaneering full back could be an ideal replacement.

It is expected that a busy period of arrivals and departures will ensue at the Bernabeu and much may depend on the fall-out from the match-fixing scandal that has engulfed Italian football and Juventus in particular.

Capello quit the Old Lady to take over at Real and if the Turin outfit are demoted then the likes of Emerson, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gianluca Zambrotta will likely become targets.
