Diarra finding favour at Real

Lyon ace Mahamadou Diarra is reportedly high on Fabio Capello's list of priorities.

Reports in Spain indicate that Lyon ace Mahamadou Diarra is high on the list of priorities for new Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello.

After Ramon Calderon's victory in the club's presidential elections the Liga giants can begin their summer recruiting in earnest, but the Mali international was not mentioned in the new supremo's pre-election manifesto.

Diarra's agent admitted on Saturday that he was awaiting a call from the Spanish capital to see if Los Merengues were going to firm up their interest in his client, with the Lyon star seemingly keen on a switch to the Bernabeu.

Now Lyon could be bracing themselves for another transfer battle after last season's tug-of-war with Chelsea for Michael Essien, with reports in Spain claiming that Capello is a great admirer of Diarra.

Calderon has promised a big influx of talent over the summer and if Real are willing to stump up a similar fee to the £25 million Roman Abramovich sanctioned for Essien, then they could be in with a chance of signing the star who has impressed in the UEFA Champions League over the past few seasons.

However Capello also has other irons in the fire and is keen on recruiting fellow holding midfielder Emerson as part of a triple swoop on former club Juventus.

Diarra has also been linked with a move to Manchester United but Lyon boss Gerard Houllier has previously insisted his star will not be moving to The Premiership.
