Lyon midfielder Benoit Pedretti admits he is frustrated at being considered a substitute by the champions.
The France international joined Lyon last summer from Marseille and is among the highest-paid players in Ligue 1.
Last season Pedretti started just 14 league games for Gerard Houllier's side and is unlikely to be handed greater opportunities in the coming campaign.
Houllier has added to his midfield with the signings of Kim Kallstrom and Jeremy Toulalan, leaving Pedretti confused about his situation at Stade Gerland.
"What can I say about the competition?" bemoaned Pedretti in Le Progres.
"Being on the bench is frustrating. The objective of the job is to play enough.
"I am here, I train the best I can and I don't know about the future.
"Will I leave? I am not the one that decides, I am under contract.
"I think Lyon rely on me...maybe you could ask them."
Though the 25-year-old is unhappy with his lack of playing time, the former Sochaux starlet is enjoying the atmosphere at Lyon.
He added: "The ambience is very nice within the group. We are friends, the atmosphere is fantastic.
"I have never experienced such an ambience in football, that is the top."
