Pedretti bemoans Lyon exit

Benoit Pedretti believes Lyon were too hasty in permitting his departure.

Auxerre new boy Benoit Pedretti believes Lyon were too hasty in permitting his departure from Stade de Gerland.

Pedretti has endured two frustrating campaigns since leaving Sochaux, first with Marseille and then an equally unproductive period with champions Lyon.

Pedretti was once ranked as one of France's most promising talents but has seen his career falter as neither of his past two clubs have shown sufficient faith in his abilities.

At Lyon in particular, Pedretti feels he was treated unfairly, firmly of the opinion that he needed more time to adjust to life at a new club in order to show his true potential.

"At Marseille no one tried to keep me, they pushed me to leave," he told L'Equipe.

"At Lyon, players like Juninho and Mahamadou Diarra were not necessarily good in their first season.

"But they just needed time. In the summer when Jeremy Toulalan and Kim Kallstrom came, I met the coach to say I wanted to leave.

"I knew I would play even less. He replied that I was improving and that he relied on me. But I would not become a player on the bench, a player in the stands!

"I did not join Lyon to experience the match with the fans! But I have improved playing with great players."
