Sidney Govou says he is delighted after proving his fitness in spectacular fashion with two goals in France's 3-1 win over Italy.
Since travelling to the World Cup with Les Bleus in place of Djibril Cisse, the Lyon forward has not appeared for his club side, with reports linking Govou with an exit from Stade Gerland over the summer.
Indeed his only run-out since the final defeat in Berlin has been in the French lower leagues with Lyon's reserve outfit.
His inclusion in the France starting XI therefore came as a shock but Govou took his chance with goals after two and 55 minutes and says he is delighted having proved his sharpness to Lyon boss Gerard Houllier.
"I was very happy to start the game," Govou told TF1.
I have not played with Lyon yet, only a match in CFA.
"I am very pleased, I wanted to prove I have the right level and I am physically fit.
"Now that I stay at Lyon I want to play.
"Anyway we will see, at first I will get some rest."
