Brazilian striker Fred looks likely to miss the rest of Lyon's UEFA Champions League group phase.
Fred pulled a thigh muscle during the French champions' 4-1 victory over Marseille at the weekend.
A scan has shown that the forward will be sidelined for between six and eight weeks, meaning he is not expected to feature in Lyon's remaining three group fixtures.
He had proved his worth by netting against Real Madrid and Steaua Bucharest, but will have to wait until the knockout phase to add to that tally.
Florent Malouda was also hurt against Marseille, but the winger is tipped to miss just two matches with an Achilles complaint.
Meanwhile, in-form midfielder Kim Kallstrom has revealed his delight at how things are progressing with Lyon.
Kallstrom told the club's official website: "For the moment everything works out, but in football everything can change very quickly.
"We love football because everything can happen. We are not champions yet, the season will be long.
"Even if we have a comfortable advantage we play to win.
"Our group is very linked, every player is a friend, that is impressive.
"We have to keep it like that because it is easy for the newcomers like me to integrate into the group. The coach trusts me and makes me play a lot of matches."
