Lyon have failed in a bid to sign Juventus striker David Trezeguet.
Lyon director of sport Bernard Lacombe has revealed the club have failed in a bid to sign David Trezeguet.
The French champions are searching for striking reinforcements after seeing their options decimated by injuries to key forwards.
Lyon boss Gerard Houllier is determined to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window and Trezeguet is one of his top targets.
Trezeguet's future at Juventus has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with the Turin club currently playing in Serie B.
Lacombe admits Lyon held talks with Juve officials over a possible move for Trezeguet, but their advances were rebuffed by the Italian giants.
"We went to Turin with the chairman to talk about David Trezeguet," Lacombe told France 3.
"They said no and I don't think they will change their mind.
"That is true that this boy can help us, because he can play Champions League football, contrary to the other great players, who couldn't be qualified to play it with us."
Olympique Lyonnais director of sports Bernard Lacombe has conceded he didn't wanted to sign an additional striker, but as coach Gerard Houiller wants to add fresh blood to his offensive lines, he has to look for a new player.
After having travelled to Brazil and to Italy to observe prospects, the Frenchman remains a huge fan of David Trezeguet, and believes he would be the best choice for Lyon.
Lacombe revealed he has been scouring the world in search of a new striker with his latest scouting trip taking him to Brazil.
"I have had the chance to go to Brazil to watch players" added Lacombe.
"Gerard Houiller wants a striker.
"For the moment, we have four.
"But if the coach thinks we need one more, we can do what is needed to take one."Another player linked with Lyon is Sevilla's Fredi Kanoute - and he admits he would consider a move back to the club he left in 2000.
"OL means a lot to me," Kanoute told Le Progres.
"They are the club of my city, where I have learned my job.
"I haven't been contacted, but if I had to, I don't know how I would react."
