French Cup round-up

French Cup holders PSG started their title defence with a 3-0 home win over Nimes.

French Cup holders Paris Saint Germain got their defence of the title off to a positive start after a 3-0 win over Nimes.

Two goals from Bonaventure Kalou sent Guy Lacombe's troubled side to the round of 16, with the Ivory Coast international opening the scoring at Parc des Princes after 10 minutes.

Pauleta doubled PSG's advantage on 23 minutes before Kalou sealed the Parisians' passage with his second just before the hour mark.

PSG will have another home tie in the next round, as Ligue 2 club Gueugnon will be their next cup opponents.

Ligue 1 champions Lyon are also through to the next stage after 2-1 win at fourth division club Bayonne.

On a soggy pitch, Lyon claimed the lead when Bayonne defender Emmanuel Degoul put into his own net after 10 minutes.

However, Bayonne pulled level when captain Michel Bidegain struck home from long range on the hour mark.

It was left to Brazilian star Juninho Pernambucano to strike one of his trademark free-mark kicks to take Gerard Houllier's side through to the round of 16.

Lyon will now visit another lower division club in Laon in the next stage after they defeated Palaiseau 4-0 away from home.
