Wiltord had appeared to be on his way out of Stade Gerland this summer, with Rennes favourites to sign the former Arsenal striker.
The 33-year-old has had a troubling relationship with club officials which was almost certain to lead to his exit.
But chairman Jean-Michel Aulas has hinted that Wiltord could be a part of coach Alain Perrin's plans for next season after all.
"His lawyer probably said to Sylvain if he does not come (to Korea) he could be in trouble," Aulas told L'Equipe.
"Now we will have a talk.
"I am just focused on the future, not the past. If he does come back on the straight and narrow, then there won't be any problems.
"Also, new coach Alain Perrin appreciated a lot his work during training."
Rennes have been in talks with Wiltord and Aulas admits there is a possibility of the front-man returning to his former club.
"The Brittany officials told us they are in contact with Sylvain. We gave them our conditions," Aulas said.
"There would be a symbolic transfer fee, and that didn't seem to be problem to them."
However, if Aulas has his way, Wiltord will stay at Lyon, with the club short of attacking options following an injury to Fred.
He added: "He is still under contract and as we have a slight gap in attack, I would prefer him to stay."
