Song has been reunited with his former Metz coach Joel Muller and former Liverpool man Patrice Bergues at Lens, and is delighted.
The former Hammer was loaned out to German side Cologne last season, and his displays attracted interest from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
Despite this interest Song had now hesitation in moving back to France with Le Championnat runners-up Lens.
"Last year, I had first serious contact with Lens, but finally I was loaned to Cologne by West Ham," said Song.
"I had several other propositions, notably from Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, I still had two years remaining on my West Ham contract, but I made my choice without any regret.
"It was important to come back to France, my second country. At first I will play Champions League for the first time in my career, but moreover I already felt that Lens was like my home.
"I knew Patrice Bergues at Liverpool, Joel Muller and Jocelyn Blanchard at Metz and I met several other players when I played in France.
"Racing is a family club you want to support, and I always followed them, even abroad. Joel Muller is like my father. I've known him since 1994, when I came from Cameroon."
Song will be hoping to help Lens go one better than last season and bring the French title back to Felix-Bollaert.
