Meriem has moved to Stade Velodrome on a season-long loan deal after failing to set Parc Lescure alight.
The 23-year-old is determined to grasp his chance with the title contenders and is relishing the opportunity to shine on the South Coast.
"Joining Marseille is an exciting challenge for me," said Meriem. "It's the perfect club to bounce back."
L'OM coach Alain Perrin had no qualms in handing the schemer the chance to kick-start his career away from Les Girondins.
Perrin told the club's official website: "He is the kind of player I like and I want to give him a fresh start.
"We are considering partnering him with Fabio Celesteni in a central position in the midfield."
Meanwhile, Ivory Coast forward Bakayoko has caught the eye of Spanish side Malaga as he mulls over his future.
Bakayoko is in the final year of his contract at Stade Velodrome and has the option of extending his deal but on reduced terms.
Malaga are keen on signing the former Everton hit-man but Bakayoko is unsure whether to quit France for La Liga.
